Oval Footed Serving Dish - Cone 10 Reduction
Oval Footed Serving Dish - Cone 10 Reduction
Wheel thrown, cut, shaped into an oval, added a slab, then threw the pedestal foot. Attached that as an oval, then cut into it to add contrast and negative space. The copper green glaze is phenomenal, as always. This piece was fired upside on the lip so the glaze pulls up and the feet are fully covered in glaze. I love this piece so much, it’s one of the most unique pieces of tableware I’ve made. I could see it being the perfect bread basket on the table!
I fired this piece at Fireside Pottery in Warren, Maine while being mentored by Nancy Button. Cone 10 reduction firing limits oxygen in the kiln, allowing iron and other materials in the clay and glaze to flux, deepen, and develop complex surface variation. This piece was from our 3rd firing together. I am so eager to keep gaining confidence with firing cone 10 kilns.
